The Kibali mine, located in Haut-Uélé province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), produced 141,000 ounces (or 4,384.6 kg) of gold in the first quarter of 2025, according to the quarterly report published on May 7 by Barrick Mining, operator of the site.

This production is down 16% compared to the same period in 2024, when it reached 168,000 ounces, and 20.3% compared to the last quarter of 2024, which ended in 177,000 ounces.

For the whole year, Barrick expects production between 688,000 and 755,000 ounces. However, the results of the first quarter remain below the quarterly average necessary to reach this objective, estimated between 172,000 and 188,750 ounces

The mining group however announces “higher grades for later in the year, mainly thanks to underground mining”. However, it does not specify whether this will be enough to correct the trajectory and achieve the annual objectives
