La société fintech panafricaine Yellow Card is committed to accelerating the adoption of cryptocurrencies, especially stablecoins, across French-speaking Africa

.

La stimulation de l' adoption des cryptomonnaies en Afrique francophone intervient selon Ines Lowe Sall, directrice régionale adjointe de Yellow Card ; for French-speaking West Africa, despite currently limited usage rates in the region. The latter indicates that stablecoins, cryptocurrencies pegged to traditional currencies, currently only have an adoption rate of 10 to 20% in French-speaking African countries. This rate contrasts sharply with their strong presence on the continent, where stablecoins represented nearly 50% of the $117 billion in cryptocurrencies registered between

2023 and 2024.

For Lowe Sall, the relative stability of the CFA franc, pegged to the euro, contributes to the slower adoption of stablecoins in these economies, especially compared to countries whose currencies are more volatile, such as the Nigerian naira. This volatility encourages English-speaking populations to use cryptocurrencies more frequently for money transfers or informal dollarization. According to him, some French-speaking countries, such as Senegal, are beginning to show increased interest in stablecoins, with traders being particularly attracted to

their use.
