The technical inception workshop was organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of Niger.
The objective of the PRECIS-Niger technical launch workshop is to provide the necessary support to the Government of Niger for the start of the project and to enable all the actors involved, in particular the Project Implementation Unit, to up to date on the content of the project and the applicable procedures. It also involved reminding the actors of the rules and procedures of the African Development Bank in terms of procurement, disbursement, financial management, environmental and social safeguards, and ensuring the measures taken to good coordination of activities between the Project Implementation Unit and its partners.
The AfDB's contribution was a grant from the Transition Support Fund of US$35 million. Four other donors are providing more than $195 million. These are the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the OPEC Fund for International Development, the Green Climate Fund and the Global Environment Facility.
"The contribution to the financing of this program is testimony to the very close cooperation that exists between Niger and the African Development Bank Group, and further proof of its commitment to assist Niger's development efforts," said , at the opening of the workshop, the head of the Bank's country office in Niger, Nouridine Kane Dia.
The main objective of PRECIS-Niger is to sustainably improve the food and nutritional security of rural households in Niger and to strengthen their resilience to climatic and environmental shocks. At least 1.4 million people will be directly affected by this program.
