This is the result of an investigation initiated into allegations of money laundering by the company in 2011.
According to information from Agence France Presse last year, an employee admitted, as part of his plea, to having paid bribes to government officials, in order to win contracts for Gunvor Group . The government of Congo has denied these allegations outright.
Torbjorn Tornqvist, director of Gunvor, appears to have kept a low profile, saying the company's compliance program was "inadequate" during this period.
