The inflation rate in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (Umeoa) reached 6.6% in March 2022 according to the monthly statistics bulletin of the Central Bank of West African States (Bceao). The increase is estimated at 5 percentage points compared to February.

The 8 states of the union recorded an inflation rate of 6.6% in March 2022 compared to 6.1% in February, an increase of 5 percentage points. This rise was driven, according to the Bceao, by the rise in food and non-alcoholic beverages. It has also been boosted by rising housing prices and transport. This increase is also attributable to the Ukrainian crisis and the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the WAEMU, Burkina Faso has the highest inflation rate, 10.1%. It is followed by Togo (8.8%), Mali (8.3%), Guinea-Bissau (6.8%) and Senegal (6.2%). Niger recorded inflation at 5.3%, while Inflation in Côte d'Ivoire stood at 4.5%.
