German is in "intensive" discussions with Senegal to participate in projects around the west african country's gas resources. According to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Senegalese President Macky Sall, the country is itself ready to feed Europe.

At a joint press conference in Dakar, the Senegalese president said : "We Senegal in any case are ready to work with a view to supplying the European market with LNG". It has planned the start of production in December 2023, at the rate of 2.5 million tons of liquefied natural gas per year initially, and 10 million in 2030. Germany is already engaged in renewable energy or energy storage projects in Senegal, and discussions have begun regarding gas. They were to continue "very intensively" at expert level.
