From 17 to 20 February 2020, the 12th Geographical Days of Côte d'Ivoire are being held in Grand-Bassam, around the theme: climate change in sub-Saharan Africa, from vulnerability to adaptation.
Initiated by the Association of Geographers of Côte d'Ivoire, this meeting aims to raise awareness of the urgency of acting in favor of the climate in Africa and to promote the establishment of Sentinelle+, a group of experts for climate observation and monitoring on the continent.
"With the foreseeable depletion of natural resources, humanity is forced to know its environment well in order to better plan its economic development. In addition, the interaction between man and his environment being at the center of scientific concerns, a sudden disruption in the environmental system becomes a subject of interest to all, "says Pauline Dibi, President of the Organizing Committee.
The 12th geographical days of Côte d'Ivoire are also a forum for reflection and sharing of experiences. 500 Ivorian participants from about fifteen African, European and American countries are expected to attend.
"The Association of Geographers of Côte d'Ivoire invites, to this end, scientists, design offices, technical services, public institutions and private structures using climate services and or engaged in the fight against climate change, as well as students, students and the general public" continues Pauline Dibi.
Emphasis will be placed on the contribution of earth observation (remote sensing) in the fight against global warming. In addition to a visit to the coast from Abidjan to Grand-Bassam to realize the advance of the sea and the consequences of coastal erosion on the lives of the surrounding populations.
