The detailed preliminary project for the renovation of the terminal Passengers of Douala International Airport (RAP-AID) was presented on Wednesday, November 12 in the economic capital, during the 136ème session of the council Cameroon Airports Authority (ADC). This step was aimed at exposing the technical, architectural and operational choices of the project before launch of the implementation phase.

According to the French group TPF/Kardham, prime contractor selected, the project meets international standards while integrating a Cameroonian cultural dimension. It is structured around two components majors.

The first phase concerns the extension of the pavements. aeronautics, with the construction of a new 36,000 m² apron on the west side of pier B. With an estimated cost of 10.4 billion CFA francs Including VAT (around 18.4 million USD), this component was awarded in October 2025 to Chinese manufacturer CHEC for an execution period of 12 months. He must make it possible to increase parking capacity and to improve traffic flow aviation and to strengthen the safety of operations. An essential prerequisite for the increase in the volume of international and regional flights.

The second component focuses on the modernization of the existing terminal and the creation of new spaces. The work site plans the development of 20,000 m², the construction of an additional 10,000 m², the installation of 10 new registration banks, the renovation of 80% luggage carousels as well as the addition of two elevators and three ramps for people with reduced mobility. The aim is to improve the separation of flows, to extend commercial areas and to optimize the use of contact positions. The work will be carried out without closing the airport, in order to ensure the continuity of air operations.
