America will try to reconcile with what Donald Trump called the "shit-hole countries" for three days in Maputo.

Heads of state, business leaders, decision makers and experts will be expected at this 12th Africa-United States summit opens this Tuesday, June 18 in the Mozambican capital.

Eleven Heads of State, mainly from East Africa and Southern Africa, made the trip to Maputo. They are accompanied by hundreds of business leaders, heads of institutions and experts of all kinds, but they will not see Donald Trump.

New American strategy in Africa

The US president will be represented by Undersecretary for Economic Affairs Karen Dunn. An absence that stains when last December Washington unveiled its strategy to counter China's influence in Africa.

Washington is indeed yielding to the great continental masses, which have become a form of tradition for the great powers. The US government hopes to counterbalance the growing influence of Beijing and Moscow on the continent.

The United States, which is very critical of a Chinese policy that it describes as "debt diplomacy", has reformed its tools of influence. They have set up a new financing company, the USIDFC, which will include OPIC, the American financing tool for the African private sector.
