The President of the Union of the Comoros, Azali Assoumani chaired on October 27, 2025, in Moroni, the official launch ceremony of the Maritime Corridor Development and Trade Facilitation Project regional.

The maritime corridor development project aims at to modernise port infrastructures essential to development economic of the islands of the Union of the Comoros, to facilitate trade trade and to strengthen regional connectivity. It will allow the archipelago of the Indian Ocean to take advantage of its strategic geographical position in the Mozambique Channel and to become a logistics hub between Africa and Asia. This project is funded by the African Development Bank to an amount of 137 million US dollars. The financing of the Group of Bank is composed of a main donation of 135 million dollars from the Fund African Development Center, the Bank Group's concession window, and another $2 million grant from the Transition Support Fund, a mechanism for States in transition.

In addition to the BAD, this project will be co-financed by World Bank , Islamic Development Bank, The Agency development french , European Union and the European Investment Bank. Together, they will mobilize more than 110 millions more dollars. The Global Center for Adaptation has also provided support for climate risk assessment on port infrastructures and adaptation options to be taken into account in the design of structures.

The project is aligned with the Bank Group 10-year strategy 2024-2033 and the “Four Points” Cardinals” of the president of the institution, Sidi Ould Tah. It will allow build resilient infrastructures and develop chains of agricultural and fishery value and will facilitate the creation of thousands jobs for young people and women. According to Laté Lawson Zankli, advisor on country programs, representing the Mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"> African Bank development , “this flagship project of the Comoros Emerging 2030 Plan will contribute to the development of value chains in agriculture and fisheries, while creating economic opportunities for young people and women.”
