Morocco and Japan signed an ambitious agreement on Thursday loan to finance a hydro-agricultural development project in Gharb. The The project must cover a total area of 30,000 hectares by installing irrigation techniques that consume little water, such as drip irrigation in order to strengthen food security and secure production agricultural.

The agreement between the two countries was signed by the minister Budget delegate Fouzi Lekjaa, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in Morocco, Nakata Masahiro, and the Director General of Department of Middle East and Europe at JICA (Japan Agency for international cooperation), Toyama Kei, in the presence of the Secretary General of Ministry of Agriculture, Marine Fisheries, Rural Development and Eaux et Forêts, Redouane Arrach, and the resident representative of the office of JICA in Morocco, Kawabata Tomoyuki.

In

line with national guidelines in the field of hydro-agricultural development, in particular the Generation Green 2020-2030 strategy and the National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Programme 2020-2027, this project aims to generalize economical irrigation techniques in water, especially drip irrigation, in order to improve resource management hydrous.

This financing supports a structuring project aimed at increase the efficiency of water use and to sustainably strengthen the agricultural production on an area of 30,000 hectares in the plain of Gharb. It also includes the construction of hydro-agricultural canals main structures, ancillary structures, as well as infrastructure security existing.

In a statement to the press, Mr. Masahiro said that this signature is a major step in the cooperation between the two country. He said that this is the most important project carried out jointly by the parties concerned to support irrigation in a region facing crucial issues related to water.

The ambassador stressed that Morocco remains a partner leading brand for Japan, emphasizing solidity and character friendly bilateral relations. He noted that the national priorities of Kingdom, in particular the rational management of water and the fight against certain illegal uses, benefit from the constant commitment of the Japanese side, which says it is proud to support these strategic directions.
