The Burkinabe government has decided to renew, for the 2026 season, the minimum price on board the field per kilogram of cashew nuts at 385 CFA francs (0.69 dollars), identical to that applied in 2025. The announcement was made in Ouagadougou by the Minister of Agriculture, Ismaël Sombié, during the official launch of fruit campaigns.

This rate remains lower than those in Côte d'Ivoire ($0.79/kg) and Ghana ($1.09/kg). However, it contrasts with the decision of These two neighbors to lower their prices on the field by 6% and 20% respectively %, in a context of uncertainty about international demand in 2026.

According to the minister, the maintenance of the price is aimed at guaranteeing access to raw material for local processing units, in the continuity of the measures undertaken since 2025 to relaunch this segment strategic.

Among the key provisions of the new campaign is the establishment of an exclusive purchasing period, from 21 February to 1 April, reserved for national processors and the Société Nationale de Gestion du Food Safety Stock (SONAGESS). During this phase, exports will be suspended in order to ensure priority market supply local, according to the Burkinabe Council for Agropastoral and Fisheries Supply Chains.

A similar measure is also applied in Côte d'Ivoire, the largest African producer and processor of cashew, for promote the supply of local manufacturers before opening to exporters.
