A report by Moody's Investors Servic published on Monday 17 February reported on the worrying public debt situation in ECOWAS.

Lucie Villa, Vice President at Moody's, co-author of the report,  "In ECOWAS, the debt burden has now almost doubled compared to 2010 and seems reluctant to decrease, raising concerns about its sustainability. This trend comes with potentially significant economic and social costs."

According to the rating agency, this risk situation is due to an unfavorable debt dynamic as well as a low financing and debt management capacity.
