The 2nd ordinary joint meeting of the Committee economic and macroeconomic policy technique of the ECOWAS and of the WAMA Operations and Administration Committee was held at the Central Bank of Liberia (BCL) held on Monday, February 9, 2026. Occasionally, the director General of the West African Monetary Agency (AMAO), Mr. Boima Kamara, stated that although the path to the launch of the single currency of the ECOWAS , The ECO, remains full of pitfalls, it is entirely feasible if the States members act with determination, pragmatism and taking into account regional realities.

The regular meeting coincided with the first Anniversary of his assumption of office as Director General of WAMA in January 2025, while the launch of ECO is scheduled for 2027. Kamara a told delegates that “the convergence and the subsequent launch of the ECO were imminent. Launch day seems tough, but not insurmountable”. According to him, the determination of the region in favor of economic integration and monetary cooperation are constantly increasing reinforce. It indicates that the collective commitment of institutions and States members from ECOWAS insuffle a new impetus to the Monetary Cooperation Programme, but success will depend intelligent and practical decision-making, rooted in reality socio-economic conditions in the region.

Kamara took the opportunity to thank the Committee of Governors, headed by its Chairman, the Honourable Bois Sidi, governor of the Bank Central Gambia , for his supervision and his support, as well as joint technical committees, expert committees and WAMA staff for their contributions.

He noted that the growth global economies have slowed down, from 3.3% in 2024 to 3.2% in 2025, economies advances expected to grow by 1.6% in 2025 and 2026. Emerging markets and developing economies, he said, are expected to grow by 4.2% in 2025, slightly below the 4.3% recorded in 2024
