In Côte d'Ivoire, people with disabilities are estimated at more than 3 million inhabitants. They were invited by UNESCO, this Thursday, August 8 in Abidjan, to an information forum on the theme "Let's look at them differently".

" We have voice recognition software for the blind. And thanks to these applications, it is now easy from a smartphone to access documents on websites, read articles and receive emails. These tools are beginning to develop, we would like access to information to be developed in public administrations, " she adds.
In this same vision, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Post has implemented the E-handicap Program. A set of projects concerning the accessibility of people with disabilities to ICT and the Post Office to make them autonomous.
" The Ministry has obtained funding of 125 million FCFA to equip 4 specialized multimedia centers for blind pupils and students of the Institute for the Blind, Félix Houphouët-Boigny and Alassane Ouattara Universities and the White Page which welcomes children with intellectual disabilities. These centers will be adapted to different types of disabilities with screen readers, drum keyboards and Braille ", testifies Gragba Séverin, the Program Coordinator.
In 2006, the United Nations adopted the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This convention reaffirms that all people, regardless of their disability, should fully enjoy all human rights and fundamental freedoms. A United Nations organization for education, science and culture, UNESCO is committed to supporting and promoting it.
