Third supplier of fish in West Africa behind Nigeria and Senegal, Ghana, also one of the biggest consumers per inhabitant, faces a structural deficit in production. To remedy this, the Ghana Chamber of Aquaculture (COA) will launch on the 25th February the Blue Food Innovation Hub, a center dedicated to the development of aquaculture and fisheries value chain, in partnership with the Forum global economy.

According to the COA, this hub aims to accelerate the dissemination of technologies, strengthen the skills of producers and stimulate the collaboration between start-ups, researchers, investors and partners techniques. The objective is to meet the challenges associated with input costs, to climate resilience and market access.

Its managing director, Jacob Adzikah, points out that the initiative must remove the constraints on access to finance, improve technological adoption and support the scale-up of SMEs in the sector.

The COA aims to raise 10 million dollars by 2036 to finance fishing and aquaculture businesses, promote sustainable practices and strengthen local transformation in order to increase regional and international competitiveness. An acceleration program will be launched primarily to prepare start-ups and SMEs for investment.

This initiative is part of a wider dynamic. En October 2025, Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang announced the upcoming creation of a development fund dedicated to the sector. In December 2025, the Department of Fisheries initiated discussions with the University of British Columbia to strengthen the governance and sustainability of industry.
