were launched on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. The launch was made in the presence of
the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan, technical partner
and financial of the project.
Financed to the tune of 15.18 billion CFA francs
by Japan as part of the Non-Refundable Financial Assistance, the works
of construction of the Vêdoko junction interchange in Cotonou are part of
the dynamic of infrastructure modernization in Benin. 270 meters long
with a width of 8.7 meters (02 lanes), the Vèdoko interchange will be
made up of 896 meters of access roads and roads connecting with
asphalt pavements equipped with 09 main traffic lights and 14 traffic lights
pedestrians, public lighting, 1392 ml of railings, 56 panels of
signalling.
This interchange will facilitate according to Akindes, Director
General of the Société des Infrastructures Routes et de l'Aménagement du
territory (Sirat), the transit of goods to Niger and Nigeria,
will reduce transport costs while stimulating industrial development
regional. The structure will also improve safety and reduce
travel time for citizens. Extraordinary Ambassador and
Plenipotentiary of Japan to Benin, Uezono Hideki announced that the
construction of this interchange is part of the “Corridor” project
Abidjan-Lagos” which aims at the free movement of people and goods,
improving regional integration in West Africa, stimulating
of trade and especially the reduction of time and transport costs.
For the latter, “the Construction work on this interchange is of particular importance. in the history of cooperation between Benin and Japan... The practical phase of this important project, long awaited by the Beninese people, starts now and its realization will contribute to making the circulation fluid for the dynamic and the economic efficiency of the city of Cotonou and of the entire country.”
