BOAD signs a historic transaction with CDP acting on behalf of the Italian climate fund. This is the ^first hybrid bond, green, denominated in euros. These funds will be used to finance projects in the renewable energy sector aimed at mitigating climate change

The objective of this innovative issue is to strengthen the bank's capital base, support its rating and thus preserve its ability to access international financing at competitive costs. The funds will be used for the construction and rehabilitation of infrastructures for producing electricity from renewable sources, allowing access to electricity for hundreds of thousands of citizens, to diversify the energy mix, avoid CO2 emissions and reduce energy production costs, in the member countries of UEMOA. A 100 million euro operation intended to finance climate change mitigation projects in West Africa through the subscription to the first hybrid bond issued by a multilateral bank and dedicated exclusively to this objective. This issuance will allow BOAD to strengthen its capital structure, and thus increase its capacity to mobilize new climate finance in the region. The bond issue subscribed by the Italian Climate Fund is one of the very first in the world of its kind issued by a multilateral bank, including the hybrid bond issued by the African Development Bank in January 2024
