The third edition of the Harmonized Survey on Household Living Conditions (EHCVM-3) was officially launched in Ouagadougou on Tuesday, September 30

The survey harmonized on household living conditions is placed under the leadership of the National Institute of Statistics and Demography (INSD), with support from the World Bank and from technical and financial partners. This A large-scale statistical operation aims to produce reliable data and comparable on the living conditions of Burkinabe households.

According to representative of the minister, Xavier Bambara, “this third edition comes at a critical time for our economy. The structural reforms that we have been implemented in recent years require a rigorous evaluation of their effects on the well-being of populations. The EHCVM 2025/2026 we will provide the indicators needed to measure this impact and adjust our policies if necessary. A detailed understanding of the mechanisms of poverty, of its geographical distribution and its evolution over time is essential for designing effective policies to reduce the poverty. In a context of limited public resources, it is crucial to optimize our investments. EHCVM data will guide our budgetary trade-offs towards the sectors and populations that have the most need. This survey will thus be an essential pillar of our system of monitoring and evaluation of public policies, allowing us to measure progress made and to identify areas in need of adjustment.”

The first part is based on a questionnaire of 20 modules covering topics such as education, health, literacy, employment, poverty and various indicators socioeconomic. Investigators will spend eight days in each zone. counted, divided into three visits, in order to reduce the burden for households interviewed.

The second consists in monitoring the evolution of a basket of products for twelve months in order to to measure the cost of living and to calculate the deflators needed to estimating the poverty line.

And the third institutional component mobilizes sectoral structures, local authorities, defense and security forces as well as actors humanitarian aid to ensure the smooth running of operations on the ground.
