In Cameroon, the Australian Canyon Resources has obtained a two-year non-renewable extension of its exploration permits on the Makan and Ngaoundal bauxite projects.

On February 18, Sonamines signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese company CREC 5 to exploit the Ngaoundal and Makan deposits in Cameroon. Until July 2021, these projects were however held by Canyon Resources, which requested a renewal of its exploration permits from the State. Canyon Resources claims to have submitted a request for an extension to the authorities before the expiry of its mining titles. The extension of Canyon's presence on these deposits located in Adamaoua puts an end to the desire of the public company Sonamines to control them.
