Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group approved
the establishment of a transaction guarantee facility for financing
trade worth ten million euros for the benefit of Ecobank Congo.
The facility granted by the ADB aims to strengthen
trade financing capacities of the Congolese subsidiary of the Ecobank Group
Transnational Incorporated (ETI). The aim is to facilitate the operations of
international trade and to secure transactions in a context where
Access to finance remains a challenge for many businesses
locals.
Thanks to this guarantee, the African Development Bank will be able to
cover up to 100% of the risk of non-payment borne by banks during
confirmation of letters of credit and other similar instruments issued
by Ecobank Congo.
According to Lamin Drammeh, Division Manager at
trade finance to the Bank Group, “this guarantee of
transaction illustrates the constant commitment of African Development Bank to
strengthen the capacity of African banks to support trade
international. Through this risk-sharing mechanism, we contribute to
to facilitate exchanges, to reduce liquidity constraints and to offer to
Congolese companies, in particular SMEs, better access to markets
regional and international”.
According to him, “this Guarantee significantly reinforces our ability to support our customers in their international trade transactions, underlined Mr. Olivier Brou Kouamé, CEO of Ecobank Congo. It will allow us to offer more competitive solutions for Congolese businesses, especially SMEs, and to contribute actively to the dynamism of the national economy.”
