The objective is to finance the project electricity interconnection between Mauritania and Mali, in the amount of 225 million Saudi riyals, or the equivalent of around 2.38 billion MRU
.
The agreement signing took place in presence of the Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Mohamed Ould Khaled, of Secretary General of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Development, Mr. Yacoub Ahmed Aicha, and the Saudi Ambassador accredited to Mauritania, SEMM. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Raqabi.
The electrical interconnection project
between Mauritania and Mali aims to build 182 km of transmission lines
high-voltage electricity between the cities of Eoueinat Ezbel and Néma. This
line will make it possible to integrate existing networks in the east and west of the country,
on the one hand, and to transfer excess production to areas of
consumption, on the other hand. It will also make it possible to feed the
settlements located along the line with cheap and clean electricity,
connecting the national grid to the electrical network of the Republic of Mali.
The Minister of Economic Affairs and Development said that “this
Signature is part of a dynamic aimed at improving citizens' access
to basic social services and to set up more infrastructures
promoting growth, in accordance with the program of His Excellency the
President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani”.
