The volumes of air freight carried by the companies African countries grew by 6.0% in 2025 compared to the previous year, according to the latest report published by the Air Transport Association international (IATA). This performance was accompanied by a 7.8% increase in capabilities deployed on the continent. In December, a period traditionally marked by strong activity linked to the end of the year holidays, freight traffic African jumped 10.1% year-on-year, registering the strongest growth monthly recorded across all regions of the world.

“The strength of global e-commerce has supported volumes, despite the increase in customs duties, the abolition of de minimis exemptions and the continuing political uncertainty that have weighed on trade relationships with the United States,” said Willie Walsh, Director General of IATA. He underlines that air freight has been able to adapt. quickly to support businesses and supply chains worldwide, in particular by anticipating deliveries before the entry into force of new tariff measures and by responding to growing demand in Asia and between Asia and Europe, in a context of stagnant trade between United States and Asia.
