Started since Wednesday, May 15, 2019, GIABA's activities to fight against money laundering in Africa continue in the Guinean capital Conakry. This Thursday, May 16, 2019, which also marked the opening of the 31st meeting of the Technical Commission, the ECOWAS member countries all took part in the ceremony.

This activity took place in the presence of members of the Guinean government, in particular, the Minister of Security and Civil Protection, Ibrahima Keira, the Minister of Cooperation and African Integrity, Ms. Djénè Keita, the Representative of the President from the ECOWAS Commission, Commissioner Mamadou Traoré, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mamadi Camara, the Minister of the Budget, Ismaèl Dioubaté and the Governor of the Central Bank, Louceny Nabé.

In his speech, the General Manager of GIABA did not fail to indicate that it is with real pleasure that he would like to extend a warm and cordial welcome to this African land of Guinea, the cradle which saw the birth of Samory Touré , founder of the Wassoulou empire, and made famous resounding "No" during the referendum of September 28, 1958, at the end of which Guinea was the only country in French-speaking Africa to have rejected the proposal to integrate the colonies of French West Africa within the French community.

"This is the place for me to address my sincere thanks to HE Professor Alpha Condé, President of the Republic, to his government and to the valiant people of Guinea for the warm and authentically African welcome which each of the delegations continues to to benefit since their arrival in this beautiful and city of Conakry, as well as for the significant part taken in the organization of the present meetings”, declared Mr. Kimelabalou Aba.

Continuing, he added that his gratitude also goes to all, expertise of Member States, observers and development partners for having made numerous trips to Conakry, pledge of their unwavering support to GIABA in its sanitation mission of the economic environment of their area of fight against the financing of terrorism, at the beginning of Ramadan.

"As the work of this plenary, the 31st of its kind and the third of my mandate, opens, allow me to wish everyone a cordial welcome here in Conakry, and particularly to the National Correspondents of GIABA in Sierra Leone and in Nigeria who took office earlier this year and are joining us for the first time in this capacity,” he added.

In his speech, on behalf of the Guinean government, the Minister of Economy and Finance stressed that it is with great pleasure and pride that Guinea, which is hosting GIABA plenary meetings for the first time, welcomes them to its capital Conakry.

“I take this opportunity to thank GIABA for choosing our country this year to host this important conference,” said Mamadi Camara.

He took the opportunity to also express his sincere thanks to all the distinguished guests of the member countries and GIABA staff as well as to the technical and financial partners.

The closing of this activity is scheduled for next Saturday, May 18. The Head of State, Alpha Condé is announced to preside over the ceremony.
