A concessional loan agreement granted by the French Development Agency to the Republic of Guinea, for an amount of 50 million euros was signed on Monday, April 1, 2019 by Mr. Mamadi Camara, Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr Jean Marc GROSGURIN, Ambassador of France to Guinea and Mrs Safia OTOKORE, Deputy Director of the French Development Agency in Guinea (AFD) in the presence of Mr Cheick Taliby Sylla, Minister of Energy and Hydraulics, and Mrs Kanny Diallo, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation.

This loan is complemented by $50 million in financing from the World Bank. The totality, more than $110 million, will enable EDG to rehabilitate and extend the electricity networks in greater Conakry, including Coyah, Dubréka and Manéah, but also in Forécariah and Kindia.

On the other hand, the Guinean Rural Electrification Agency, whose mission is to improve access to electricity in rural areas, will be supported to bring off-grid electrification solutions to a dozen isolated rural localities, where the EDG network cannot arrive in the medium term.

In total, more than 82,000 urban households and 3,000 rural households will have access to electricity through this project and all will be equipped with a meter to pay for their electricity consumption in a transparent and fair manner.
