Whale is the first exploration well drilled in Côte d'Ivoire by Eni, which owns interests in seven deep water blocks in Côte d'Ivoire. The company made an initial oil discovery of up to 2 billion barrels of oil and 2.4 trillion cubic feet of associated gas in the CI-101 block in September last year. The drilling helped increase hydrocarbon volumes in the Whale Field by about 25%, which are now estimated at 2.5 billion barrels of oil and 3.3 trillion cubic feet of associated gas, the two companies said in separate statements.
