Vodacom is in talks with the Kenyan government for acquire part of the State's stake in Safaricom.

Vodacom, the Johannesburg-based company, which already owns about 39.93% of Safaricom, would consider increasing its stake, well that no final decision has been taken. According to this information was announced in a Bloomberg News publication, these new developments intervene in a context of ongoing debate on the advisability of splitting the most valuable company in Kenya into separate entities for telecommunications, mobile payment and infrastructure.

The Secretary of the National Treasury Cabinet, John Mbadi, revealed in August that the government was evaluating the possibility of splitting Safaricom in three units including telecommunications, towers and M-Pesa, in the framework for a strategic review that could reduce its participation by 35%.
