Senegal Satellite (Sensat) announced on Thursday, January 15, last Thursday, January 15 that the country
intends to strengthen its sovereignty in space by launching
of a second satellite, GaindeSat-1B in 2026. The announcement was made during the
academic year 2025-2026, from the Center for Advanced Studies in Defense and
security (Cheds).

Professor Gayane Faye has declared: “We are going to put a new satellite into orbit (GaindeSat-1b) in 2026 to strengthen our independence. In a world ultra-competitive, you have to give yourself the means to acquire own tools capable of producing spatial data.”

join the first one put into orbit in August 2024, with the ambition of
strengthen the country's sovereignty and national security in matters
