signing ceremony of a Line of Credit agreement between the Development Bank of Mali-SA
(BDM-SA) and the African Development Bank (ADB). The ceremony took place on August 16, 2019 at the
Primature.
“I am particularly delighted to preside over this agreement signing ceremony relating to support
bank financing for SMEs-SMIs, a growth and development factor for our economy
national,” said Prime Minister Boubou Cissé during the signing ceremony of this
agreement for an amount of 30 million euros, or approximately 19.70 billion FCfa.
This line of credit is intended to finance various development sectors of the economy.
Mali and will support the efforts of the BDM-SA in favor of the development of the private sector,
particularly in the areas of agriculture, energy, industry and social issues thanks to
targeted productive investments.
Nearly 85% of the funds deployed, i.e. FCfa 17 billion, will be earmarked for the agriculture and
agribusiness, and at least 15% of the amount of the line of credit will be granted to women entrepreneurs.
"Today's ceremony gives us the opportunity to open a new page in the history between the Group
of the African Development Bank and the financial sector in Mali", said Ms. Louise Djoussou
Lorgn, AfDB Country Representative in Mali.
According to the Managing Director of BDM-SA, Mr. Bréhima Amadou Haïdara, this support will enable his bank to
consolidate its achievements in financing the Malian economy. He thanked the government for
all its efforts in favor of the flourishing of the Malian banking sector.
The Prime Minister expressed the feelings of gratitude and recognition of the Malian government and
of the Malian people with regard to the AfDB which continues to make efforts to facilitate access for SMEs and SMIs
bank financing. The head of government also congratulated the BDM-SA for all the efforts
provided for the development of the private sector and its contribution to the dynamism of the national banking sector
and sub-regional.
He urged banks to step up financing efforts in favor of the private sector with a view to
of a qualitative transformation of the Malian economy.
The financing of the various eligible projects will make it possible to create a thousand jobs, the construction of
500 social housing units, the development of nearly 1,000 hectares of agricultural land and the alleviation of
financial constraints and access to long-term resources by SMEs and large companies.
