30 million euros, or twenty billion FCFA, is the amount of the line of credit that the African Development Bank (ADB) has granted to the Development Bank of Mali (BDM-SA). It is intended for the financing of companies, including SMEs, operating in the agricultural sector, women entrepreneurs, the construction of social housing, among others. The agreement was signed on Friday, August 16, at the Primature, by the Director General of BDM-SA, Bréhima Amadou Haïdara and the Mali Country Manager of the AfDB, Ms. Haly Louise Djoussou-Lorng. It was thanks to a ceremony chaired by the Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance, Dr. Boubou Cissé, in the presence of the CEO of CMDT, the DG of Public Debt as well as executives of the two Signatory banks.

This agreement, the first of its kind between the two institutions, is part of the efforts of the BDM-SA Group to provide adequate financing solutions to the Malian economy and, in particular, to the private sector. Indeed, since his arrival at the head of the BDM-SA Group, Bréhima Amadou Haïdara has set as his main mission the search for financing wherever it is to support the Malian economy.

This line of credit undoubtedly constitutes an appreciable contribution in long-term resources, rare but nevertheless necessary for the financing of the investments of the economic actors.

Thus, these 20 billion FCFA, granted for a maturity of 8 years (including 2 years of deferred), will contribute to achieving the performance commitments of BDM-SA for the strengthening of sustainable development and economic growth through the lever of banking sector. It will make it possible to support the bank's efforts in favor of the development of the private sector, in particular agriculture, industry, energy and the social sector and, particularly, women.

Consolidate the achievements of the BDM-SA in terms of financing

Thanks to targeted productive investments and a thousand jobs from eligible projects, this funding will thus contribute to strengthening our country's economic growth and reducing youth unemployment.

According to the Managing Director of BDM-SA, this financial support will be an asset in consolidating the achievements in terms of financing the economy. It will also allow the institution to pursue the implementation of its medium-term program 2018-2020 in terms of its main axes, namely, the financing of large companies, support for the financing of the cotton campaign, internationalization of the Bank and services for Malians residing abroad, the development of financing for SMEs/SMIs and individuals, the modernization of the Bank, the improvement of the quality of customer services and the consolidation of the Bank's financial structure

This agreement seals a strategic partnership between BDM-SA and the AfDB. It should be remembered that the AfDB is a leading partner in financing the development of the African continent. The BDM-SA will be inspired by this experience and the support of this institution to develop its activities nationally and internationally ,” added Mr. Haïdara.

He recalled, on this occasion, that BDM-SA is the first Malian banking group thanks to the establishment of four international subsidiaries (BDU-Côte d'Ivoire, BDU-Burkina Faso, BDU-Bissau , BDM-France),” BDM-SA will consolidate its internal foundations by the availability of adequate liquidity injected into the parent company to give a boost to its activities and continue its expansion. We would like to express the full readiness of BDM-SA to support the bank financing of the national economy. It is also determined to continue its expansion in the sub-region and even beyond ,” he concluded.

Previously, he thanked the Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance, Dr. Boubou Cissé for his availability to preside over this ceremony and the AfDB team for the diligence given to the processing of the file.

The Prime Minister congratulates the BDM-SA for its support to the private sector

The Head of Government, after chairing the signing ceremony, welcomed this agreement which increases the volume of resources made available to our country by the African financial institution. He expressed the recognition and gratitude of the Malian people to the AfDB, expressing the hope that this convention will pave the way for many others.

Dr. Boubou Cissé added that, during the recent economic re-entry of the CNPM, the President of the Republic hailed the dynamism of the Malian private sector which plays a role in driving economic growth. Admittedly, this private sector benefits from the support of the highest authorities of the country, including the Head of State, but also from the banking sector, including the BDM-SA which received the congratulations and encouragement of the Prime Minister.
