Cocoa futures prices have been pushed to their highest level in 46 years in recent weeks due to supply concerns
.The rainy season was plentiful this year. It has disrupted the balance that should be between rains and dry, sunny periods in order for a cocoa crop to thrive. Thus, Côte d'Ivoire was forced to interrupt its sales for fear of not having sufficient production volume to meet them. Yves Brahima Koné, director general of the Café-Cacao Council (CCC), indicated that sales were suspended for a particular period. According to him, “because of the climate situation, the production that is due to come out of the plantations next October will no longer be what we expected.” To this end, the Café-Cacao Council hopes that the next phase of production, from January to March, will help balance volumes. On the contrary, the country's economy could suffer. Noted that Côte d'Ivoire, the world's largest producer, depends on cocoa for 40% of its export earnings.
