Director General of the African Refining Society (SAR), Mamadou Abib DIOP
declared that Senegal will proceed with the construction of a second
oil refinery in 2026.
This strategic project represents an investment
Pharaonic that could reach 5 billion dollars. The ambitious project
called “SAR 2.0”, is already attracting considerable interest on the financial scene
international. The future installation, with a treatment capacity of 4
million tons of crude oil annually, will be a technological leap and
major industrial for the country. It will overcome the limitations of
the current refinery, the oldest in West Africa, whose capacity
tops out at 1.5 million tons per year, a notoriously high production
insufficient to meet national needs.
Mamadou Abib DIOP said that SAR 2.0 embodies the structural response to the refining capacity deficit national. This project will radically transform the Senegalese energy landscape, allowing the country to fully cover its domestic consumption while developing regional export capacity.
