On August 8, the Parliament of Mali adopted a new mining code to increase its participation in the country's gold mines, and to generate additional annual revenues of 500 billion CFA francs for public coffers.

After the adoption of a mining code in early August, mining companies exploiting gold in Mali are becoming optimistic. Canadians B2Gold and Barrick believe that the status quo should be maintained for their gold mines in the country, while the new regulations introduce a greater share for the state in mining projects. B2Gold indicated that “an existing mining project such as the Fekola mine, whose agreement complies with the mining regulations in force at the time the agreement was concluded, should not be affected by the new mining code ”.
