The African Development Bank ( AfDB ) authorized on November 29, the granting of a financing of
$210 million for the improvement of the national electricity transmission network in Nigeria.
This package, which includes a loan of 160 million from the AfDB and $50 million from Africa Growing Together
Fund (AGTF), will go to the Nigeria Transmission Expansion Project (NTEP1).
This initiative led by the Electric Transmission Company (TCN) should in particular support the
construction of 330 kV double-circuit power transmission lines and electrical substations. This
project targets 7 states namely Kano, Kaduna, Delta, Edo, Anambra, Imo and Abia.
More generally, the AfDB 's financial support aims to reduce the annual bill spent by the country (14
billions) in gasoline or diesel generators and lower the associated CO2 emissions.
As a reminder, according to TCN estimates, approximately 2,000 MW are lost in the distribution network.
