The global pandemic does not seem to have impacted cotton production in Côte d'Ivoire. The Professional Association of Cotton Companies of Côte d'Ivoire (Aprocot-Ci) announced yesterday that cotton production is expected to reach a record 520,000 tons in 2020-2021, 6% more than in 2019/20.

An increase following good weather conditions and a 9% increase in sown surfaces to 444,760 hectares. Contoculturists were encouraged by the high price to the producer, renewed at FCFA 300 per kilo.

On the other hand, Covid-19 and the containment measures taken to contain it, have destroyed global demand for cotton, which has put pressure on the cash flow of cotton companies by slowing exports. Some companies still have unsold volumes from the 2019/20 campaign.
