The launch of the African Development Bank's (AfDB) Economic Outlook on January 30, 2019 in Abidjan, in the presence of Nobel Laureate and former President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, was a great moment of foresight.
This year, the central theme of the report, the bank's flagship publication, is the training of tomorrow's African workforce. A central issue for a population of 1.2 billion to double to 2.5 billion in 2050. Nothing alarming, however, the continent has the means to meet the challenges, especially since, as Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank, recalled, "the outlook is good with Africa's real GDP growing by 3.4% in 2019, and will increase by 3.9% in 2020 and 4.1% in 2021." The 6 strongest growth on the continent are Rwanda, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Tanzania and Benin, Adesina says. Overall, FDI in Africa increased by 11% in 2019 compared to 4% for Asia.
