Ghana's crude oil production recorded a drop of 25.9% year-on-year in the first six months of 2025, thus reaching its lowest level in a half since 2016. This decrease is explained by the drop in production in the main fields The country's oil tankers, announced on Thursday the Committee of Public Interest and responsibility (PIAC).

Ghana's crude oil production fell by 25.9% in YoY during the first six months of 2025, i.e. the level lowest half-year since 2016, due to a drop in production in the main fields, said on Thursday the Public Interest Committee and country responsibility (PIAC).

Crude oil production in Ghana, the largest producer Gold from Africa, started in 2010, but production has fallen to its peak low level in five years in 2023 due to the drop in production in existing fields.

However, during the first six months of 2024, the production increased by 10.7%, mainly thanks to the Jubilee South project East by Tullow and Kosmos Energy.

The PIAC, a state body responsible for monitoring the sector, said in a semi-annual report that oil production had fallen to 18.4 million barrels by June 2025, from 24.9 million barrels barrels at the same time last year due to the natural decline of reservoirs and scheduled closures of the main fields.

Production at the Jubilee flagship field fell by 32.8% to 11.0 million barrels, largely due to maintenance shutdowns between March and April.

PIAC also said that no new oil agreements had not been signed since 2018, warning that the decrease in investments and the aging of oil fields pose risks structural for the sector.

Gas production also fell by 6.7% to reach 130,466 million standard cubic feet in June, according to the report.
