On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the signing took place of a marketing memorandum of understanding between local maize producers and Senegalese flour mills. This cooperation aims to resolve the paradox. from a country with record production while maintaining imports massive.

The signed agreement engages Senegalese millers, represented by Claude Demba Diop, president of the industrial millers of Senegal, to buy 25,000 tons of local maize for the 2025 season, at a price fixed at 225 CFA francs per kilogram.

Senegal reached a historic record of local maize production of 639,000 tons in November 2025.

Yet flour mills continue to import nearly of 400,000 tons of this cereal every year, mainly for manufacture of feed for livestock and poultry.

This imbalance is now targeted by a partnership sealed through commercial intermediation of the Belgian Agency for International Cooperation (Enabel), of the Agency of Market Regulation (ARM), the Ministry of Agriculture and others partners.
