The Multinational Program (REWARD-AfricaRice) is recently launched in Côte d'Ivoire, for the benefit of 14 countries in Africa the West. The Togolese rice sector is also preparing to register this new support.

With funding of $8.5 million, the The program aims to boost rice value chains and reduce the high dependence of the region on imports. This program is supported by the Center rice for Africa (AfricaRice), REWARD for Resilient and Efficient West African Rice Value Chains Development. It intends to strengthen all of the rice ecosystem, from production to processing, including marketing. The focus is on improving yields, dissemination of efficient and resilient varieties, as well as on modernization of processing units.

This program represents for the country, a opportunity to consolidate the efforts already made to stimulate production national and reduce the import bill.

Thanks to this initiative, Togo will be able to benefit of improved rice varieties adapted to its different areas, of a strengthening its seed systems and support to modernise the processing and marketing of rice.

Ultimately, the program aims to to increase average yields from around 2 tons to nearly 7 tons per hectare, while increasing the income of rice farmers, by promoting job creation, especially for women.
