2026, a $150 million financing from the International Bank
for Reconstruction and Development (BIRD) in favor of the Republic of
Gabon for the Project for Access to Basic Services and the Improvement of
performances (PASBAP).
In a press release, the World Bank
specified that “the operation will support the priorities of the government
consisting in modernizing water and electricity services, in promoting
universal access and to strengthen the financial sustainability of providers of
services, while contributing to the goals of adapting to change
climate and mitigation of its effects.” This funding will allow
Gabon to increase its efforts in resolving the energy crisis that
cross the country.
The World Bank reported that “financing
approved supports the Government's efforts to address
these challenges in terms of access and quality of service, by combining
investments in climate-resilient infrastructure
with the strengthening of policies, institutions and regulations
sectoral”.
In detail, the project PASBAP should benefit around 535,000 people through enlargement from access to running water and electricity, to the improvement of reliability and quality of existing services and the introduction of services safely managed sanitation.
