On Monday, September 1, 2025, was took place in Abidjan the official ceremony for the taking office of the new President of the African Development Bank (AfDB). It's about the Mauritanian economist Sidi Ould Tah, elected on May 29.

9 â president to lead the BAD, the new president of the institution, delivered the famous speech in this circumstance in front of an audience of personalities. These include Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, the Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, several heads of government and members of the council of administration of the ADB Group. Sidi Ould Tah presented to the audience the outlines of its program for the term of five years.

“I make a solemn commitment to perform my duties and functions with loyalty, discretion and aware, having only in mind, the interests of the Bank”, affirmed Sidi Ould Tah. He recalled the urgent need to “revisit the plan. of investment” and “to change the paradigm”. Also, he emphasized partnerships with other institutions.

“Partnerships are key. There has several colleagues in this room who believe in the importance of partnerships and who are ready to work hand in hand with the ADB, for uniting energies in order to mobilize resources for the development of Africa and to launch a new African financial architecture”

Moreover, the new president wants to, strengthen the regional financial institution and give it the means to build solid infrastructures in the face of the effects of climate change.

The four strategic pillars outlined by this last aim to free up Africa's financial resources, reform and consolidating Africa's financial sovereignty, transforming demographics in dividend and build resilient infrastructures.

As a reminder, Sidi Ould Tah was president of the Arab bank for the economic development in Africa (BADEA) from 2015 to 2025. He also held the post of Minister of Economy and Finance. from Mauritania.
