Dakar — The Autonomous Port of Dakar (PAD) made a net profit of 6 billion 325 million CFA francs at the end of the financial year ended December 21, 2018, said Thursday its general manager, Aboubacar Sedikh Bèye.

"At the end of the financial year ended December 21, 2018, the port made a profit of 9 billion before taxes and it will pay 3 billion in taxes to the tax service, which means that the port made a net profit of 6 billion 325 million CFA francs", he explained, speaking of the financial results of the PAD at the end of the general meeting of its board of directors.

Aboubacar Sedikh Bèye stresses that the port has made "exceptional and historic results thanks to the expertise and commitment of the ports, the strategic orientation of the administrators and the confidence that the President [of the Republic] had in their place".

According to him, "all the jobs found" at the PAD when he took over in September 2017 were "maintained" and "all the contracts [...] renewed". He is congratulated that despite all these charges, he and his team were "still able to improve the cash balance".

"The cash balance was negative 7.8 billion CFA francs whereas today the port has a positive cash balance of 7.4 billion CFA francs", he boasted, adding that "it is a effort of more than 15 billion FCFA that we were able to obtain".

He also added that “outstanding debt has been drastically improved, from 45 billion to 35 billion today”.

This result was obtained "thanks to a combination of revenue optimization but also a clearly defined vision which made it possible to tighten the lines on a certain number of expenses while maintaining jobs", he explained.
