Industrial cotton production in Senegal recorded an increase of 1.7% in January 2022 excluding ginning. The figures were revealed by the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (Ansd) in the Harmonized Index of Industrial Production (Ihpi) of January 2022.

An improvement in industrial production was recorded in Senegal in January. “In January 2022, industrial production excluding cotton ginning increased by 1.7% compared to that of the same period of 2021. This increase is mainly related to the performance noted in environmental industries (+41.8%) and "electricity, gas and water" production (+9.5%). However, production in the extractive industries fell back (-6.0%) over the period. Moreover, in January 2022, cotton ginning activity increased by 52.8%, compared to that of the corresponding month of 2021, "says the Ansd document.

In the same dynamic, the Ansd notes a drop in the activity of the extractive industries. With reference to the corresponding month of 2021, informs the Ansd, the production activity of the extractive industries contracted by 6.0% in January 2022.
