Dakar — The Minister of Infrastructure, Land Transport and Accessibility, Oumar Youm, announced on Sunday the imminent start of construction work on 13 flyovers in Dakar to improve urban mobility.

“These are 13 flyovers, the works of which were launched by the Prime Minister in January 2019, which in a few days we will enter into the effective start-up phase of the works,” he said.

Mr. Youm spoke at the end of a visit to the sites of the flyover structures on the VDN at the level of the Citée Keur Gorgui and Saint Lazare, in the presence of the head of the structure.

The visit started at Keur Gorgui on the VDN ended at the Thiès checkpoint with a presentation of the toll system.

"These works are extremely important because they will bring a lot of improvement to the fluidity of traffic in Dakar," said Oumar Youm.

He says "to be reassured by the first construction sites he had to visit on the VDN at Cité Keur Gorgui and Saint Lazare".

However, he underlines, "these works are done on a reduced, the VDN, a very frequented axis, with constraints on the circulatory ways".

It is for this reason that he met with the companies to see "the provisions which are taken to mitigate the risks and the genes on the circulation". The Minister reiterated his ambition to make it easier for users to use the tracks.

In total, 5390m of linear bridges and 11 km of reframing ramps, will be carried out within the framework of this program which will be carried out in 44 months, has for its part informed, the Head of work and arts of AGEROUTE , Sheikh Tidiane Thiam.

"This program will also generate in terms of economic and social benefits," he argued, citing the movement of people and goods, the development of tourism, etc.
