World Congress 2025 in Kigali that Airtel Africa, the telecommunications group
present in 14 African countries, would invest in data centers in
Nigeria and Kenya.
Airtel Africa is building important centers of
data in Nigeria and Kenya as part of a larger effort to
localize data processing and strengthen digital infrastructure
of Africa. According to CEO Sunil Taldar, data center projects
of Airtel Africa in Nigeria and Kenya would function as platforms
regional digital technologies, supporting cloud computing, fintech and
AI-based innovation. This initiative for the latter, reflects
the company's ambition to create a connected Africa, where data is
processed locally, talents are developed nationally and
innovation is being deployed on a global scale.
Taldar also states that “this requires partnerships between operators who build together, manufacturers of technologies that equip, the regulatory agencies that enable, investors who believe, tax regimes that support and young Africans who create.”
Likewise, he believes that the next revolution of
telecommunications in Africa would be based on partnerships, intelligence
artificial and data centers, pillars he described as
essential to boost productivity and support the digital growth of
mainland.
