MTN Nigeria Plc and Mafab Communications ltd will roll out 5G from August 2022. The country will soon join Kenya, South Africa and Lesotho in the very closed circle of countries that have deployed this technology.

The Nigerian telecom regulator organized, in December 2021, the auction sale of broadband telecom spectrum, to allow operators to deploy 5G. Emerged winners of this sale, MTN Nigeria Plc and Mafab Communications ltd, are expected to begin rolling out fifth-generation (5G) services from 24 August. This was stated by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Wednesday, May 4, when handing over the final letters of 5G spectrum licensing to the two operators. The ré5G network, when deployed, will bring many benefits and opportunities that will generate accelerated growth and a "smart" lifestyle in the country.
