Tunisian exports recorded a moderate increase of 2.6% in 2025 compared to the previous year, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). In value, foreign sales reached 63,695.1 million dinars (MD), against 62 077.6 MD in 2024, reflecting a contrasting dynamic between sectors of activity.

The increase was mainly driven by the mining, phosphates and derivatives sector, whose exports have jumped by 15%, as well as by the mechanical and electrical industries, in increase of 8.7%. On the other hand, several key sectors have declined. Les energy exports fell by 30.2%, as a result of a sharp drop sales of refined products. The agri-food industries declined by 7.4%, penalized in particular by the decrease in olive oil exports, while the textile, clothing and leather sector recorded a decrease of 1.7%.

At the same time, imports have grew faster than exports. They settled at 85 495.4 MD in 2025, against 81,005.2 MD a year earlier, an increase of 5.5%. This trend is driven by the increase in imports of goods. equipment (+14.4%), raw materials and semi-products (+6.8%), as well only consumer goods (+11.7%). On the other hand, imports of energy products fell by 6%, as did those of products food, down 8.4%.

As a direct consequence of this difference in growth between exports and imports, the trade deficit of Tunisia grew in 2025 to reach 21,800.3 MD, against 18,927.6 MD in 2024. As a result, the coverage rate deteriorated from 76.6 per cent to 74.5 per cent, illustrating the continuing challenges facing the trade balance of country.
