The lending interest rates applied by the banks of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) to their customers recorded a slight increase of 0.26 percentage points during the month of January 2010 compared to the previous month, according to a survey on banking conditions conducted by the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO).

According to the Issuing Institute, excluding charges and taxes, the average rate calculated at the WAEMU scale stood at 6.73% in January 2020 against 6.47% in December 2019.

As for the average rate of return on customer deposits, it stood at 5.45% during the month under review against 5.51% recorded in December 2019, i.e. a drop of 0.06 percentage point.

Under the regional money market, the average amount of bids on the weekly auction window stood at 4,741.1 billion FCFA in January 2020 against 4,556.6 billion FCFA a month earlier, an increase of 4.0%. . The average amount retained at the end of the auctions remained stable at CFAF 3,690 billion in January 2020 compared to the previous month. The weighted average rate on the weekly counter stood at 3.26% in January 2020 against 3.88% in December 2019.

On the WAEMU interbank market, the average weekly volume of transactions, all maturities combined, fell by 19.0% to CFAF 469.3 billion in January 2020. The weighted average rate of these operations stood at 4.41%, compared to 4.52% in December 2019.

Under the one-week compartment, the average volume of transactions stood at 345.6 billion FCFA during the period under review, after 433.4 billion FCFA a month earlier. The average interest rate on this counter stood at 4.38% against 4.43% in December 2019.
