The Lagos-Benin highway was blocked on Thursday, January 26, 2023 in Oluku Junction by young people protesting against the rise in fuel prices and the scarcity of the product in Edo State. They thus force commuters to be stuck for hours.

For long hours, commuters going to Lagos and those hoping to do business in the region were blocked, a blockade denounced by carriers, travelers and those who have businesses in the region. They express their dissatisfaction with the incident.

According to Grace Emmanuel, one of the traders who took her goods to Ekiadolor, it was appropriate for her to bring her perishable goods where she would sell them so as not to suffer losses. According to him, “it is unfortunate that this demonstration is taking place because it will worsen the existing problem. If I don't get my goods to where I sell them, some may go bad and I'll suffer losses that I don't want at the moment.” For her, “they are protesting for the right reasons. The fuel situation is hitting everyone hard, but blocking roads will cause losses for people who are going to do business.”
