On Saturday, February 9, 2023, the Senegalese Head of State Macky Sall inaugurated a power plant with a capacity of 120 megawatts and a cost of 101 billion FCFA. This work took place in a village in Senegal called Malicounda in the department of Mbour (Thiès, west).

The 120-megawatt power plant, expandable to 135 megawatts, “opens a new era in public-private partnership, with the integration of the Senelec as a 15% shareholder” according to Macky Sall. Indeed, built with the contribution of the Bank, as the leading financial partner, this infrastructure should contribute to “reducing the cost of electricity and strengthening the country's energy sovereignty.” Some 523 people have been employed on the construction of this power plant, which will be able to supply 500,000 households with electricity.
